Actor James Woods Suing Hospital For Negligence
Woods’ brother, Michael Woods, died from heart disease at Kent Hospital on July 26, 2006. Doctors failed to realize his heart was in trouble — even with an abnormal EKG.
The staff left him on a gurney, as there were no rooms available. He went into cardiac arrest and died three hours later.
In the following lawsuit trial, James Woods’ attorney claimed that Michael Woods was not seen by a doctor for an hour after he arrived. He was not given oxygen, medication, or hooked up to a heart monitor, even though the doctors had seen the abnormal EKG.
The hospital’s lawyers claimed that Michael Woods’ symptoms were not consistent with heart failure, and that he tried to assure the nurses that he was fine. They claimed that Woods’ heart and arteries were so diseased that there was no way to save him. He was overweight and struggled with many heart problems including high blood pressure and myocardial ischemia.
The trial is expected to last a month in Kent County Superior Court.
